For the third time, the Lenzing Group is honouring young researchers with the Lenzing Young Scientist Award for excellent research work in the field of fibers and textiles. The Dornbirn-GFC, as a platform for the international exchange of experience in the field of fibers, offers an ideal stage for the research competition. Bachelor's and master's degree students can submit their scientific work in the categories “Fashion and Circular Economy”, “Alternative Raw Materials” and “Textile Recycling" as well as in the field of “New Fiber Technologies” and face a jury of renowned experts from the industry.

The aim is to promote students who inspire the industry with their research results and to create a platform for networking with the textile and fiber industry.

 

Innovative solutions as a potential gamechanger

The Lenzing Young Scientist Award will be given in three categories:

  • Fashion and Circular Economy: Recyclable textiles meet design (holistic & systematic approaches)
  • Alternative Raw Materials and Textile Recycling: Innovative disposing & sourcing concepts, innovative fiber separation technologies & raw material / fiber production processes
  • New Fiber Technologies​​​​​​​: New fiber modification processes and technologies

 

Terms and conditions for participation

What types of scientific work can be submitted? How recent should the work be?

Submissions can include content from Bachelor’s and Master’s theses from the Winter Semester 23/24 and Summer Semester 24. The language of the scientific work should be English.

 

Who can submit their scientific work?

Bachelor’s and Master’s students, especially those studying Science and Design/Fashion, are eligible to submit their scientific work.

 

How and where can the scientific work be submitted?

Submissions can be sent to [email protected].

 

What is the exact submission period?

The submission period is from May 1, 2024, to July 22, 2024.

 

What are the submission requirements?

Submissions should include a CV and a scientific work description (1-2 pages) detailing the problem statement, solution approach, results, and implementation status. The quality of the submission will be evaluated. A short pitch video can also be included. The language of the submission should be English.

Ideally, a submission should include a CV, a project pitch video, and the scientific work itself.

Is there a need for a consent form regarding copyright?

Yes, a confirmation that the submitter holds all rights to the scientific work and can share it is required. Restricted research or research that is subject to secrecy may not be submitted.

 

How will the works be evaluated and the winners selected?

The scientific papers will be evaluated by a jury. The awards will be presented during the Dornbirn GFC 2024, from September 11-13, 2024, in Dornbirn, Austria. The winners will be invited to the congress to present their research. The evaluation criteria will prioritize the most innovative papers with the potential to be game-changers.
